Ed Reavy: Well, the glen on our road from Cootehill where we lived.
We lived out in the country on farms..it was a Glen Road...sort of mysterious...
There was very quaint people that lived around there...
Liz Carrol
Liz was born in Chicago in 1956. She took her first lesson in traditional irish music
from her father, who plays the accordian. She also took formal violin lessons at grade school.
Later she picked up more tips and tricks from other musicians in Chicago, such as Johnny McGreevy.
Her Progress was such that she became All Ireland fiddel champion at the age of 19.
Liz plays quite a few of Ed's compositions and learned most of them, including the three she
plays on this record, from the book.

Armin Barnett
Armin, who comes from Hungarian ancestry, was born in Chicago in 1950. He is an excellent
American Old-Time fiddle and banjo player and came via this route to Irish music. He is a violin
maker andrepair man by trade. He learned "The Road to the Glen" from Liz Carrol and they play it together
on this album.

The Recording
This recording presents the music of Ed Reavy, one of the most important composers
of Irish music in this century. Since he started composing in Philadelphia in the 1930's,
his music has spread far and wide, both to other parts of America and to Ireland,
where many of his tunes have become part of the staple repertoire of most traditional musicians.
